Lenovo - Access the boot menu for V-130 using Novo button

Problem

You need to access the boot menu to check a hard drive is detected or to run a Windows 10 recovery using a supplied CD or uSB stick.

Applies to

  • Lenovo V130
  • Other Lenovo laptops

Resolution

The Novo button is often located on the side or bottom panel of the laptop. It will look like a reset button and may require a straightened paperclip to depress it.

  1. Make sure the laptop is turned off but plugged into power.
  2. Now press the Novo button with the straightened paperclip, the laptop should respond by opening a boot menu.
  3. The laptop should then show an option to select "boot menu".
Review the list of choices and see if something like HDD or hard disk appears in the list.
  4. If you have a Windows 10 boot CD please open the CD tray and insert the CD, then close the tray.
  5. Once inserted press ENTER to boot from the CD.

The boot menu will show as below illustration. Use the arrow keys to select the “ATAPI CD: PLDS DVD-RW “ and press ENTER to boot from this drive.
