JAWS - Failure to start after windows sign-in

Problem

In some rare cases JAWS may fail to auto-start after Windows sign-in even if JAWS provides support during sign-in it does nt launch afterward for the logged in user.


Resolution

Before attempting this workaround check JAWS auto-startup settings are correctly set.  If auto-startup is set  but still fails please use the workaround below to fix the problem.

Using ther mouse

  1. Right click the JAWS desktop icon and choose Copy in the context menu.
  2. Right click the Windows Start button and choose Run option with left click.
  3. At the prompt enter the text below then click OK:
  4. Shell:startup
  5. A new File Explorer window will open, right click in the blank files area listview and choose Paste in the context menu,


Using the keyboard

  1. Press WindowsKey+M to go to desktop.
  2. Type letter J until you locate the JAWS desktop icon for the current version.
  3. Then find the desktop icon for the install version/copy of JAWS you wish to have start and copy this to clipboard.
  4. Then press WINDOWS+R and enter the command below and click “OK” button:
  5. Shell:startup
  6. A new explorer window will pop up, paste the JAWS icon into this location and close the window.
  7. Then restart to test the new logon scenario with the problem.
