ZoomText - AppReader says it is not available in Microsoft Word

ZoomText - AppReader says it is not available in Microsoft Word

Problem

When using AppReader in Microsoft Word the message “AppReader is not available in this window, use Speak It tool instead” is heard.

Resolution

AppReader is supported in all current versions of Microsoft Word. The error may indicate that the Word AHOI module is not functioning correctly.

Method 1 - Remove and reinstall the Word AHOI module

  1. Launch Windows Explorer and navigate to the following paths:

ZoomText 2020 or later

C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\ZoomText\2020

ZoomText 2019 and earlier

C:\Program Files (x86)\Freedom Scientific\ZoomText\2019
Note

Please adjust the year/version to accommodate the installed copy of ZoomText.

  1. Then run the AhoiUtil.exe executable.
  2. In the list highlight the MS Word module then click “Remove” button to remove the AHOI module.

  1. Then click Exit button.
  2. Re-launch the AhoiUtil.exe utility.
  3. Then click the “Add module” button and in the list of modules highlight the “Ah_Word.dll” module and click “Open” button to re-add the module.
  4. Then click “Exit” button.
  5. Now close and re-launch ZoomText and test to see if the problem is resolved.

Method 2 - Repair ZoomText installation

Please see Repair Zoomtext Installation for this procedure.
