BrailleSense 6 – Bluetooth pairing with IOS device

BrailleSense 6 – Bluetooth pairing with IOS device

Problem

A customer wishes to connect their BrailleSense 6 to use as a Braille display with an Apple IOS device (iPhone/iPad).

Resolution

  1. BrailleSense 6 provides a terminal for screen reader option to allow the BrailleSense 6 to serve as a dumb terminal for Braille output from VoiceOver on IOS devices.
  2. Bluetooth if not active must be turned on also to allow communication.  Do not attempt to pair via Settings > Bluetooth route, a special method is used from within VoiceOver settings (see below). You can also set Bluetooth to be enabled when starting VoiceOver in the Settings app.

On BrailleSense

1.       Power on the BrailleSense 6, then Press F1 to open Start menu.

2.       Then select Utilities > Terminal For Screen Reader, then press  ENTER.

3.       Then select Bluetooth connection type when prompted.

On IOS device

1.       Open Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille.

2.       Swipe one item past “Choose Braille Display” your will find “Searching…” displayed.

3.       When you see the name of the BrailleSense display, enter pairing code 0000 and activate the pairing button on top right of  IOS device display.

4.       The connection should then be established with the BrailleSense display.

5.       To exit Terminal For Screen reader press chord-Z to exit.
