1. Additional Add-ons
The following additional add-ons are now available in the “Optional Add-Ons” download area:
a. YouTube Search app: An easier way to search for YouTube videos, channels, and playlists, as well as to save and access favourites and subscriptions. Sign in to your Google account for best results, and a personalized experience. *This app handles the search/subscriptions interface, playback is still controlled using the YouTube Android app.
b. NFB Newsline: Add-on for the US-based Newsline service from NFB. (Must have a qualifying account.) Once logged in, your favourites will load in the main screen.
2. Third party apps
a. Shortcut functions
i. Apps that offer Android shortcuts now display a double dash before their name in the All Apps menu.
ii. Press Backspace-I to open a menu of available shortcuts for the current app. Press Enter on a shortcut to execute it.
iii. Press Tab on a shortcut to save it to the Shortcuts Manager, and create a global hotkey for execution from anywhere on the unit.
iv. Shortcuts Manager is now available near the end of the All Apps menu, and allows you to modify or delete any saved shortcuts or their associated hotkeys.
b. We now have additional HTML navigation for Web views
i. Backspace-H and Enter-H to move back and forward by heading.
ii. Backspace-1-2-3-4-5-6 and Enter-1-2-3-4-5-6 to move back and forward by form control.
iii. Backspace-I and Enter-I to move back and forward by list item.
c. We’ve updated apps in the App installer to the most current versions, as well as adding a few new selections. You can get a short description and/or hints about each app in the Installer by pressing “F3” when focused on it. Press “Space-F3” to return to the App Installer list.
d. Defaulted the audio ducking setting to off to avoid problems returning to normal volume, as well as other undesirable side effects.
e. Added “Refresh” keystroke for apps with lists, like RSS Readers. Hotkey: “Enter-R” when focus is on the list.
3. General
a. Added Braille learning tables option for use with UEB Braille in the Global Options.
b. Added Mexican Spanish localization
c. Added Taiwanese Braille code
d. Added Spanish Jorge voice.
e. Fixes a problem translating words that include the number 4 in US Braille.
f. Fixes a problem where the unit would sometimes power off when flipped.
4. File manager
a. This build fixes the problem uploading to Dropbox after another program is executed.
b. You can now open Shortcuts to files and folders in Google Drive.
c. The results of a search no longer include the message “path of” before the file name, rather, the file name and path are displayed without the label.
5. Word processor
a. Changed all values in the layout menus to inches rather than cm or mm.
b. Separated the Mark functions in to their own menu, as opposed to their former position in the Go To menu.
c. Fixes the problem of the Word Processor closing when in the background.
d. Tried to improve editing speed in large paragraphs.
6. Notepad
a. Added the ability to set a specific reading voice for the Notepad, separate from the main system voice. Located in the Notepad “Voice Settings” dialog in the “File” menu.
b. Separated the Mark functions in to their own menu, as opposed to their former position in the Go To menu.
c. Tried to solve the problem of the Notepad closing in the background, thus, users sometimes losing unsaved data if they’ve forgotten to save it before letting it rest.
d. Fixes the problem uploading to Dropbox after another program is executed.
e. Fixes the Notepad crash when trying to move the cursor at the end of the file.
f. Fixes a problem reported with PDF’s not opening after auto save.
g. Fixes a problem with translation in the Find dialog in Braille files.
7. E-mail
a. You now have the option of RSVP to appointment requests in e-mail. Press Enter-Backspace-I to change the appointment status. Or, you can press Enter on the invite attachment.
b. Added an item in the “Set Options” dialog to choose to use the “BrailleSense browser” or “Android browser” when using the “Backspace-O” command.
c. Improved the problem of getting an invalid error if sending an e-mail after a bit of a wait.
d. Fixed a problem where e-mail accounts were duplicating when modified.
e. Attachments should no longer randomly be sent with e-mail messages.
f. Fixes the problem of showing incorrect characters in e-mail messages.
a. Added the ability to edit album/artist information in the Information dialog.
b. If Scroll Voice is turned off, it will no longer speak.
c. Fixed the problem of not playing the IMA WAV ADPCM format.
9. Podcasts
a. If you select multiple podcasts for download, it should now download them all and play the currently focused cast.
b. Fixes problems loading feeds like Blind Bargains, and updating feeds like AppleVis.
c. Now remembers the order of saved episodes in a feed rather than listing them alphabetically when Wi-fi is off.
10. Web Radio
a. Adds the ability to record the web Radio. Press Enter-R to start and stop the recordings. You’ll find recordings in flashdisk/Web radio/Record. *Note: Cannot record BBC or other HLS streams.
11. DAISY Player
a. Numbering of marks is now automatic according to the order they are created.
b. Removed the exit prompt when closing the DAISY Player.
c. Fixed a problem where DAISY content would speak even though the DAISY voice was set to off.
12. Document Reader
a. Marks are now numbered automatically according to the order they are created.
b. HTML documents should no longer display HTML code.
13. BookShare
a. In the Search Content area, there are now “Public Reading lists”, and “My Reading Lists”. The My Reading Lists section will contain any lists you’ve created yourself, as well as those you’ve subscribed to.
b. To subscribe to a public reading list press “Enter-S” when focused on it in the “Public Reading Lists”.
c. To unsubscribe from a reading list, press “Space-D” when focused on it in “My Reading Lists”.
d. You can now use “Space” to select multiple books in a result list so that they can all be added to a reading list at once.
e. You are now prompted appropriately when trying to download a book with the same title.
f. The BookShare details dialog is now a Tab order
14. Address Manager
a. We fixed a problem where it would lock up if the user tried to add a contact to the local “BrailleSense 6” account.
15. Schedule Manager
a. Added the ability to set the default "Search mode" in the Calendar settings dialog.
b. Fixes the problem of not setting the correct end date in the Schedule Manager.
c. Alarms should no longer sound if they have been declined in the calendar.
16. Excel Viewer
a. Fixes the issue opening an Excel file from a cloud drive if a file is already opened.
17. Utilities
a. Decimals will now always read as digits in the Calculator.
b. Fixes a problem outputting in correct answers when using Scientific Notation in the Calculator.
c. Fixed a problems where alarms would not always sound when the unit is in Sleep Mode.
18. Settings
a. Added the “podcast,” “web radio”, “voice recorder”, “document reader”, “to do list”, and E-mail Sort Order settings to the backup and restore settings app.
b. Fixed problems connecting to WPA 3 networks.
c. Fixed issues connecting to phone hotspots.
d. Fixed first letter navigation in the Bluetooth Manager.
e. Fixed a problem where adjusting volume and other speech parameters stopped the Quick Start Guide content from speaking.
