BrailleSense – Setting up Google Email


Problem


A BrailleSense 6 customer wishes to set up an existing Gmail address within their note-taker's built in email app.

 


Resolution

Use the steps below to set up an existing Google Mail account for set up in Email app.

 

  1. Please make sure you have your Google Email account information to hand for easy entry, usually the full email address and login password should be sufficient.
  1. When supplying this information please use the format @gmail.com rather than @googlemail.com to avoid failed 2FA texts during the setup.
  2. If 2FA is enabled on an account you will be asked to authenticate using that method when you enter the account password.
  1. During setup some familiarity with Braille entry will be required e.g. computer Braille, entering @ sign.  If this will be difficult or the person setting up does  not know Braille you can work around the problem by connecting wired USB keyboard to BrailleSense in order to key in the information.
  1. When setting up the account you may need to move between controls with the dialogue box, press the TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3)  to move forward or backwards  (SPACE-1-2 or F3 ).

1.       Press F1 to open the Home menu then press letter E to go straight into email; alternatively you may use SPACE-4 to navigate down to Email and press ENTER.

2.       If no account is present the email app will automatically launch a prompt to create an account, alternatively press F2 to open the menu and select Tools pull down and press ENTER, when  you hear Account Manager press ENTER again to select it.

3.       Then press ENTER-A to activate the Add account button; alternatively press  SPACE-4-5 or F3 to TAB to the Add button and press ENTER on it.

4.       At Default Mail Server type press SPACEBAR to cycle around the available radio button choices to select IMAP then TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3) to Server Type.

5.       At Server Type drop down Press SPACE-4 or  SPACE-1 to select Google then press TAB (F3).

6.       At Account Name edit box, you can accept the existing name or amend with a new entry here, then press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3).

7.       At Display Name prompt enter the text how you wish others to see your name when they receive your message, then press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3).

8.       At the Google Mail email address prompt enter the full email address including the at sign using SPACE-BACKSPACE chord followed by dot s4, then complete the email address.

9.       Then press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3) to navigate to Logon Username, please enter the full Gmail address again and press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3) to navigate to the next control.

10.   At the Password prompt enter the password used to access the Google Mail account and press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3) again.

11.   At the Incoming IMAP server prompt leave this as imap.gmail.com and press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3) to move on.

12.   At the Outgoing SMTP Server prompt you can do as above as it should already have smtp.gmail.com already populated, then press TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3).

13.    Press TAB to reach the Confirm button and press ENTER on that also.

21.   You will then be taken back to the accounts screen to allow use TAB (SPACE-4-5 or F3) and confirm the account was created.
