C-Pen - Will only operates when connected to external power

C-Pen - Will only operates when connected to external power

Problem

The C-Pen will only operate when connected to external power over USB and not power from internal battery even though it reports 100 percent charged.

Applies to

  1. C-Pen

Resolution

This problem can occurr if the C-Pen has not been used recently and the battery has fallen below critical charge. In this state it will not power up from internal battery.

Method 1 - Use a wall USB charger

Some laptops or destop computers will not provide enough current to charge the internal battery. the USB port needs to be able to supply up to 2 amps. Use a USB mains charger that is capable of supplying this power and leave the C-Pen on charge for at least an hour.

Method 2 - power on reset

Use the steps below to see if it will allow the unit to power of internal battery.
  1. Connect USB cable and allow charging to start. If battery charge symbols do not appear on the screen, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds ("normal" power on).
  2. Press reset button on the back.
  3. If charge symbols appear press Power button to power up.
  4. Otherwise press-and-hold Power button for greater than 20 seconds.
  5. Assuming battery level is proper, the USB cable can be detached.
  6. After this procedure the unit is supposed to start up as intended by “normal” long press on Power button.
