Canon - Cleaning printer head

Problem

A Canon Pixma MG-5750/ MG-6851 or similar printer user is having problems with the quality of the output from the printer.

Resolution

Please try each the methods below to fix the probem.

Run basic head cleaning

  1. With the printer powered on load a sheet of A4 paper.
  2. On the printer it will show the paper registration screen. Select A4 page size and "plain paper" for type.
  3. Open the output paper tray gently.
  4. Then flick to go back to the "Home" screen and tap on the "Setup" icon.
  5. Tap "maintenance" icon and then tap "Cleaning".
  6. Then choose "Cleaning".
  7. Tap "Yes" on the confirmation screen.
  8. Then run the nozzle check to see if this has helped.
  9. If there are still problems can you try the same instructions but in step 6 choose "deep cleaning" option.

Running Deep cleaning

  1. Make sure printer is turned on then load a sheet of A4 into the front paper cassette tray.
  2. The printer will then respond with a paper registrations screen, press OK button to accept.
  3. Gently open the paper output tray and on the touchscreen choose Setup from the Home screen.
  4. In the Setup menu select Maintenance and OK button.
  5. Then select Deep Cleaning option and OK button and then respond by clicking Yes on the confirmation screen.
  6. The printer will respond by beginning trhe deep cleaning operation
  7. Press Yes and then OK buttons when the pattern confirmation screen will appear.
  8. Then printer will respond by printing a nozzle check pattern. When this finishes press the OK button.
  9. Examine the nozzle check pattern for defects and proceed with the next steps depending on the outcome:
  • If ink of a particular collour is not being printed replace the ink tank for that colour.
  • If the problem is not resolved then turn off power and run through the Deep Clean operation again.
  • If running the Deep Clean has not helped the printer head may be damaged.
