Disable driver updating in Windows 10/11
Information:
Below are details to prevent Windows update a hardware driver for a specific component. This may be used to prevent Microsoft updating a hardware device with a bad Microsoft driver as can happen with wireless adaptors.
Steps
Windows 11
- Click Start or press the Windows key to open Start menu,
- Then search Change Hardware Device Installation Settings and open it.
- In the Window that pops up click the No (Devices might not work as expected) radio button option.
- Then click Save Changes button.
Windows 10
- Press Windows+R to open the run command.
- Enter the following and then press the return key:
- sysdm.cpl
- Click Hardware tab in the new window, then click Device Installation Settings button.
- In the new window click the option No (Your device might not work as expected) option.
- Then click Save Changes button. You may be prompted to authenticate with the system.
