JAWS - Disable notification of FSCast episodes

Problem

A JAWS user withes to stop JAWS informing them about Freedom Scientific podcast updates. 


Resolution

Use either method below that suits for disabling this type of notification.

Method 1 - Using the JAWS UI

  1. Press JAWSKey+F2 and select “Settings centre”.
  2. Press control+shift+D to open the “Default” configuration.
  3. Then type “FSCast” and down arrow to the entry about notifying of new FSCasts
  4. Then press SPACEBAR to uncheck.
  5. TAB to “OK” button and press ENTER.

Method 2 - Editing JAWS configuration file

The following may be particular interest for IT Technicians and other computer Administrators. The setting to display the FSCast dialogue is contained in the JAWS Default.jcf file.

File is location:

%AppData%\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\[Year/version]\Settings\enu

Where [year/version] is placeholder for the JAWS year/version currently installed. For example 2023 or 18.0.
