JAWS - Disable the accessibility driver to improve JAWS performance with applications

Problem

JAWS attempts to intercept messages within Windows from the graphic subsystem. As JAWS moves to other methods to obtain information you may try disabling the Accessibility Driver to see if this helps with screen reading some apps.

Resolution

  1. Press JAWSKey+number row 6 to open the Settings Centre and then press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to open the default configuration for JAWS.
  2. Then enter the text “Accessibility” without quotes.
  3. Then press down arrow to and press down arrow to locate “User Accessibility driver for screen capture”.
  4. Press TAB to reach the Apply button and press SPACEBAR on it.
  5. Then TAB to the OK button and press ENTER to dismiss the dialogue.
