Disabling xFont to troubleshoot Zoomtext issues

Problem

You have a problem with ZoomText font smoothing which may be causing an application to crash or behave unexpectedly.


Resolution

To help resolve this issue it may be necessary to strategically disable the ZoomText font smoothing option to identify if font smoothing is causing the application crash using the steps below.

  1. In the ZoomText window click the “Magnifier” toolbar.
  2. Then near the bottom of the window within the “Screen enhancements” group click the down arrow.
  3. Then click the “Font” tab.
  4. Uncheck the “Enable Geometric” smoothing.
  5. Then click “OK”.
  6. Then click “ZoomText” menu.
  7. Then choose Configuration” then “Save as Default” and confirm “yes” on the overwrite prompt.
  8. Launch your application and test with ZoomText.
  9. If you still get a crash then try the following steps.
  10. In the ZoomText window click the “Magnifier” toolbar.
  11. Then near the bottom of the window within the “Screen enhancements” group click the down arrow.
  12. Then click the “Font” tab.
  13. Uncheck the “Enable xFont magnification” smoothing.
  14. Then click “OK”.
  15. Then click “ZoomText” menu.
  16. Then choose Configuration” then “Save as Default” and confirm “yes” on the overwrite prompt.
  17. Launch your application and test with ZoomText again.

The steps above will hopefully eliminate which of the smoothing methods are causing the issue allowing you to reinstate the smoothing type that doesn’t cause a crash.
