Magic - Error: EnforceWriteProtection cannot be disabled
Magic - Error: EnforceWriteProtection cannot be disabled
Problem
After install for Remote Access Magic posts an error when launched: "Configuration error: Magic was unable to disable EnforceWrite Protection. Remote access requires this option to be turned off. Please contact your system administrator."
IMPORTANT!
Magic software is no longer supported by Freedom Scientific and Technical Support cannot be given for the software.
Resolution
The error may indicate one or other of the two below resolutions need to be applied:Disable EnforceWriteProtection in the registry to prevent stability issues with the mirror driver using the registry setting below:Key = HKLM/Software/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager/Memory Management/EnforceWriteProtection key value = 0.
Run MAGic with the “-noddihooks” command line argument. This will turn off the hooks in the mirror driver, so OSM won’t be available.
Switch to GDI hooks. In Default.jcf, section OSM, add line “HookingMode=1”.
Note:
Disabling the EnforceWriteProtection setting is needed only in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows versions that are newer than Windows 7 are not affected since we install the accessibility driver instead of the mirror driver.
