Focus V - Perkins Keys appear to be unresponsive or locked out

Problem

A Focus user is unable to successfully navigate using Focus display the Perkins keyboard seems to be unresponsive or locked out.

Resolution

The input lock feature on the Focus may possibly be responsible for the problem.  With the input lock set the Perkins-style keys on the top of the display are locked to prevent accidentally pressing them and entering unwanted text or commands.

Setting Focus input lock

  1. Press the Power button to display the status information and then simultaneously press a Cursor Router and the left Mode button.  To indicate that the keyboard is locked, DOTS 2-3-4-6-7-8 and DOTS 1- 3-5-6-7-8 will be displayed in two cells toward the right end of the display, just before the connection status.
  2. Press any other control to return to normal operation. Once locked, pressing DOTS 1 through 8 or the SPACEBAR will no longer send keystrokes through to the computer.


Unlock Focus keyboard

  1. Press power button.
  2. Hold down cursor routing button above first cell.
  3. Press the right mode button - the circular button on the right hand side of the braille display.
  4. Let go and it should unfreeze the input keys.
