You wish to know how the scratchpad feature in the Focusa Blue v5 displays deal with different braille codes that are entered?:
Scratchpad literally records the exact keystrokes entered into it. No braille tables are used and no forward or back and no translation is performed. You may use whatever braille code you wish, or mix codes as your need dictates. When the Scratchpad is saved, the braille entered will be saved in a .fnz (think of Freedom Notz) file which contains all of the keystrokes you entered into your Scratchpad file. When the file is reopened, the cursor is placed at the location in which it was located when the file was closed and you may read through the file, continue editing, etc.
The only time the braille code entered into the file will matter is when the Export feature is used. This is because the Export feature relies upon the screen reader being used with the braille display to back translate the contents of the Scratchpad file as it is entered into the open file, or other edit field on one’s computer. In the case of JAWS, for example, if JAWS is set so that contracted braille input is enabled, the contents of the Scratchpad file will need to be written in the same braille code as JAWS is set to, so that the contents of the file, being sent to the pc by means of the Export feature, will be correctly back translated as it is received from the Focus Blue braille display and written into the open file or edit field by JAWS. If one has composed one’s Scratchpad notes using computer braille, JAWS will need to be set to computer braille input.
When one is using the Focus Blue braille display with JAWS, the braille output and input settings can be changed by pressing dots 12457+Space (12457-Chord)repeatedly, to cycle through the three states.
