Focus - Bluetooth pairing and setup in Windows

Problem

A Focus Braille display user needs to pair/configure JAWs to work over Bluetooth with their Focus Braille display.

Please use the steps below to pair the Focus display using Bluetooth with Windows

Paring focus and Windows

  1. Press the WINDOWS Key, type “Bluetooth” into the Search edit box, and press ENTER 
    to access your computer’s Bluetooth settings.
  2. Press TAB to move to the Bluetooth button and if it is off, press the SPACEBAR to turn it on.
  3. Power on the Focus. The time and battery status information is displayed.
  4. Press SHIFT+TAB to move to the Add Bluetooth
    or other device button and press the SPACEBAR.
  5. Press the SPACEBAR once more on Bluetooth.
  6. Press TAB to move to the list of available devices.
  7. Use the ARROW keys to select your Focus display from the list and then press ENTER 
    to finish pairing the display. If the Focus was not found, make sure it is powered on.

Add Focus display with JAWS

  1. Open the JAWS window using JAWSKey+J hotkey.
  2. Then press ALT+O to open Options menu.
  3. Then press UP/DOWN ARROW to Braille and press ENTER.
  4. Then press TAB to reach the Add Braille Display button and press SPACEBAR.
  5. The Add Braille Display wizard will open.
  6. Ensure that Focus Braille display item is checked before pressing TAB to reach Next and press SPACEBAR.
  7. On the on next screen press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the Output Port drop down list.
  8. Then use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select Bluetooth, then press TAB to reach Next button and press SPACEBAR.
  9. Then ensure that Focus is selected in the Primary Device drop down and press TAB to reach Finish button and press SPACEBAR.
  10. Then press ENTER to restart JAWS to use the new Braille display connection.
