Focus - Enter test/clean mode

Problem

You wish to run the Focus test/clean mode in order to test/clean Braille line or test buttons.

Application

This may b e useful in the following circumstances:
If Braille pins are stuck in up position or down position.
If buttons are not  working as expected or at all


Note
Please note that not all issues with Focus commands are necessarily the fault of the Focus.  Use the button tests below to determine if the Focus is operating correctly in relation to key presses.  After checking Focus, one should also check for updates to fix problems with mobile screen readers Talbkack on Android and VoiceOver on Apple IOS devices.

Resolution

Use the steps below to clean the display when movement of pins is impeded by dust and dirt.  It is also possible to test the Focus buttons for problems. 


Cleaning

  1. Only use a soft cloth lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol to clean the display using any other substances.
  2. Do not apply any substances directly to the Braille line.
  3. Clean the Braille line with pins up and pins down. 

Enter test/clean mode

  1. Disconnect the Focus display from any USB connection.
  2. Press the power button whilst holding down the rightmost cursor routing and nav row buttons simultaneously. This action causes all cells to be activated for cleaning.
  3. With a soft cloth lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol gently clean along he Braille line. Do not use any other substance to clean the cells.


Braille pins control

Press Right or Left NAV Rocker deactivates all of the cells. Pressing up on either the Left or Right NAV Rocker reactivates all cells.


Braille Keys Testing

The key and controls test ensures that each of the keys and controls operate
properly. You can begin the key test after entering Diagnostics Mode by pressing any of the keys below, the output should show as per below.


DOT 1 = 1
DOT 2 = 2
DOT 3 = 3
DOT 4 = 4
DOT 5 = 5
DOT 6 = 6
DOT 7 = 7
DOT 8 = 8
Menu = mnu
Left Shift button = kls
Right Shift button = krs
Spacebar = ksp
Left Panning button = pl
Right Panning Button = pr
Left Selector Button = sl
Right Selector Button = sr
Left NAV Mode Button = nml
Left NAV Rocker Up = nlu
Right NAV Mode button = nmr
Right NAV Rocker Up = nru
Right NAV Rocker Down = nrd
Left NAV Rocker Down = nld
Left Rocker Switch Up = rlu
Left Rocker Switch Down = rld
Right Rocker Switch Up = rru
Right Rocker Switch Down = rrd


Test Routing buttons

Whilst in test/clean mode press the routing buttons above a cell to test, if the cell shows up all dots then that routing button is working. See steps below:

  1. Disconnect the Focus display from any USB connection.
  2. Press the power button whilst holding down the rightmost cursor routing and nav row buttons simultaneously. This action causes all cells to be activated for cleaning.
  3. Whilst in test/clean mode press right or left NAV rocker buttons to put all the pins down.
  4. Then press any of the routing buttons above a cell, the cell immediately below the routing button should then activate all dots.
