FS install - Folder permissions and anti-Virus whitelisting (ZommText/JAWS/Fusion )

Problem

JAWS/ZoomTextFusion are not working as expected on a computer system that operates with restricted login or uses third party anti-virus software.

Application

The permissions given and steps described apply to all Freedom Scientific BLV software products used on systems where high security is in operation on workstations.  They may help to resolve common problems arising from permissions and anti-virus related issues that cause the products to fail to work as expected. 

Resolution

Please work through the approaches to address issues permissions for Freedom Scientific software to operate properly within a restricted environments

  1. if rhe system runs with users that have restricted login use the information to grant folder permissions as indicated below. 
  2. Where a 3rd party anti-virus solution is in use the same information to exempt or whitelist Freedom Scientific  folders from real-time scanning activities of the ant-virus softwae.

Read/Write permissions

  • Read & execute permissions for folder and contents.

Full control permissions

  • Full control
%PROGRAMDATA%\Freedom Scientific\
%APPDATA%\Freedom Scientific\ 

For versions earlier than ZoomText 2018, ZoomText required “Full Control” of all of its folders.
