FS Auth – Sentinel server activation “Freedom Scientific Connection Error” (manual activation)

Problem

A customer is attempting to activate a Freedom Scientific Sentinel network license when they receive the error “Freedom Scientific Connection Error” stating “There is an error with your internet connection”.

Resolution

The error stated is indicating that the activation wizard is unable to communicate with Freedom Scientific's activation servers to retrieve a key.  Using manual activation can provide a resolution for this type of problem, please use the steps below.

 

  1. Open Start menu and select Freedom Scientific Network Authorisation program group, then select “Update Network Authorization”.
  2. Then click through “Start Activation” and select “Manual activation” radio button, click Next button.
  3. On the next screen copy the locking code number into a Notepad document.
  4. Then copy/paste the 20 digit ILM code number into the “Authorization number” edit box if it is not populated.
  5. With a browser visit:  www.fsactivate.com and click to select the link “Retrieve an Activation License Code based on your Authorization Number and Locking Code”.
  6. On the next page copy/paste the 20 digit code into “Authorisation number” edit field and do the same to copy/paste the locking code into “Locking code” entry field.
  7. With both fields filled click “Submit button” to view the license code.
  8. Copy the license code up and including the hash sign #.
  9. Then paste the code into the “Activation License Code” entry field in the activation wizard. Click Next and Finish.
