ZoomText/Fusion - Adjust/change typing echo

Problem

A Fusion user wishes to change the level of speech feedback they get whilst tying.

Resolution

Typing echo is the term given to the speech feedback provided by a screen reader product when a whilst a user enters text on the QWERTY keyboard.  These settings may be saved as part of user’s personal customisation  for use whenever they need it.

Using the keyboard

  1. Press CONTROL+CAPSLOCK+U to open the main ZoomText or Fusion window.
  2. Then press ALT followed by R, K to open the keyboard echo settings.
  3. Then use UP/DOWN arrow keys to select the desired typing echo for the list below, then press ENTER.

    - No Echo
    - Keys
    - Words
    - Keys And Words

  4. Press ALT followed by Z for ZoomText or F for Fusion to open ZoomText/Fusion menu.
  5. Then press UP/DOWN arrow keys to select Configuration, then press ENTER.
  6. The press UP/DOWN arrow keys to select Save As Default then press ENTER.
  7. When prompted to overwrite the default configuration press ENTER on Yes button.

Using the mouse

  1. Click the ZoomText or Fusion taskbar button to open the main window.
  2. Then click Reader tab.
  3. Then click the black down arrow below Keyboard echo button.
  4. Then click select the desired typing echo option from the list below.

    - No Echo
    - Keys
    - Words
    - Keys And Words

  5. Then click ZoomText or Fusion menu.
  6. Then select Configuration > Save As Default.
  7. When prompted to overwrite the default configuration click Yes button.

Typing echo modes

The following are sspeech behaviour is described for eacho mode setting below:

- No Echo = No speech spoken when input keys are pressed
- Keys = Fusion speaks each letter as it is entered.
- Words = Fusion speaks the complete word when spacebar is pressed
- Keys And Words = Fuision speaks each letter as entered and completed word when spacebar is pressed.
