Information

Below information on common fixes for issues with Macbook/Mac OS based laptops.

Slow Mac, or got a weird problem?

Please try these common fixes for various random issues with slow performance of other odd problems.

Fix permissions.

  1. Go to the Go menu, select Utilities, then Disk Utility.
  2. Select the main HDD, and click Repair Disk Permissions.
  3. Restart.

Reset SMC

If the above doesn't help (or the machine wont power on), reset the SMC.

Reset PRAM/NVRAM

  1. With your Macbook turned off please begin by pressing power button and immediately holding the keys Option, Command, P, and R keys simultaneously.
  2. Keep these keys depressed until you hear the Mac restart chime.
  3. After the the restart chime has been heard release all of the above keys.

Run Apple Hardware diagnostic

Also test the hardware with Apple Diagnostics:

  1. If powered on turn off your Macbook completely.
  2. Then power on whilst holding letter D until the hardware diagnostic comes up.

(older Macs before June 2013 have Apple Hardware Test http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 - same command to start)
