Laptop & Desktop - Get signal strength info for Wi-Fi adaptor
Problem
You are troubleshooting wireless connection issues and wish to know the exact signal strength being recieved.
Resolution
Please use one of the methods below to get more detailed Wi-Fi signal strength info.
Method 1 - Using a command prompt
- Press Windows+X or right click Start menu and choose “command prompt (admin)”.
- At the prompt enter the following and press ENTER:
netsh wlan show interfaces
You will see a report like the one below:

- Look for the line that reads “Signal” and a figure for percentage will be given to indicate wireless signal strength. If this information is missing it may indicate you are running under a limited user account or have not run an elevated comman prompt window.
Method 2 - Using a third party store app
You can use the following third party Windows 10 store app to gain easy access to some of this information without using the command line tools above.
- Open Start menu.
- Then search Microsoft Store app and run it
- Then search for “WiFi Analyzer” and download and run it.
- You may need to select “Europe” as your region before results are displayed.
