JAWS – Use Gmail (standard view) with JAWS screen reader


Problem

A customer needs to access Gmail web (Standard view) interface with JAWS.

 

Notes

  1. Google announced that they would begin withdrawing HTML view support from January 2024.
  2. JAWS does support Standard view but it is different to the experience in HTML view.  
  3. Customers whose Gmail is currently set to HTML will find they may no longer be able to use HTML view.  They must either continue in Standard view or use an installed email client.

 Resolution

  1. Freedom Scientific have created audio and PDF materials to help users with Gmail use the standard view which is not the only option with Gmail.
