JAWS - Repair installation

Problem

If JAWS is not working correctly you can try to repair the installation to fix the issue.


Resolution

Before running the repair download the version of JAWS appropriate to your license using the links below.


Using the mouse

  1. Using the above links download the same version installer as the JAWS copy currently installed. if required you can use an offline installer to conduct the repair.
  2. Go to the folder where the installer resides.
  3. Then hold SHIFT whilst right clicking the JAWS installer, select Copy As Path from the context menu.
  4. Then right click Start button and choose Run.
  5. Then right click the edit box and click Paste in the menu.
  6. Click to place the editing cursor at the end of the pasted text
  7. On the end of the command add a space and forward slash symbol so the command looks similar to the one below and click OK:

  8. JAWSPackageName.exe /type repair

    Where 
    JAWSPackageName.exe is the installer and: /type repair are the switch arguments to the installer to conduct a repair.

  9. Follow the instructions of the installer to complete the repair, it may take longer than a normal installation as it will check components and may verify and reinstall them. 

Using the keyboard (JAWS users)

  1. Using the above links download the appropriate JAWS installer with which to conduct the repair. Locate the downloaded JAWS package you need to install with.
  2. Then press CONTROL+SHIFT+F10 to open the context menu.
  3. Then down arrow to "copy as path" and press ENTER.
  4. Then press WINDOWS+R to open the "Run" command.
  5. Then press CONTROL+V to paste the path to your download.
  6. Press ENTER or use RIGHT arrow to reach the end of the pasted text, then add a single space, then enter /Type Repair so it is similar to the command below, then press ENTER to start the repair.
