Resolution

Please use the directions below to get an Index V5 embosser connected to a wireless network.

Method 1 - Using WPS setup (home users)

Many Wi-Fi routers will be equipped with a WPS button for Wi-Fi Protected Setup.  The V5 embosser can be made to connect with the router using the general steps below to connect to a home wireless network.

  1. Press MENU > Communication > Wi-Fi network > Wi-Fi network ON.  The action will be confimed in speech "Wi-Fi network ON".
  2. Then press MENU > Communication > Wi-Fi network > Start Wi-Fi Protected Setup.  The embosser will search for the Wi-Fi network (this may take approximately two minutes).
  3. Then activate WPS on the router (refer to the routers manual for details)
  4. Then connection should be automatically be established. The flashing Wi-Fi icon on the embosser control panel will indicate the ongoing connection process.
  5. When the Wi-Fi connection is established, the embosser Wi-Fi icon on the control panel will stop flashing and be lit continuously.

Method 2 - Using ESC file with network credentials

It is also possible to amend and send an ESC file to provide network credentials for the target wireless network.

Notes
Note
  1. Please ensure that Index Direct Braille is installed to send the file to the embosser.
  2. Information on using the wireless network parameter file also exists here.

  1. Click to download Wi-Fi Setup Parameter File
  2. Open the file in Notepad or similar plain text editor app.
  3. In the file it will show the following information which must be modified for your network credentials:

    C"SSID""NETWORKNAME","PassPhrase""PASSSWORD";

  4. In the above please replace NETWORKNAME with the SSID for the target wireless network, then replace PASSWORD with the network access key for the target wireless network.
  5. Then save the amended file.
  6. Then right click the saved IBS file and choose Index Direct Braille > Your V5 embosser and click OK.
  7. The V5 embosser Wi-Fi icon will light up when the wireless network is connected, the embosser will then speak : "Connected to Network name, IP number."

Verify network connection/address

  1. On the front panel press HELP+10, the embosser will now speak the TCP/IP address (example 192.168.4.24). If the echo is 0,0,0,0 no network communication is established.
  2. Once connected you can open a browser and enter the embosser IP address to access settings.
