JAWS – Adjust sound settings to help with sound problems
Problem
A JAWS user is encountering some problems with their sound using JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion.
Resolution
In Windows there are some settings for how Windows handles the soundcard, one may adjust these settings to see if they might help.

ATTENTION!!
On PCs used in a business/organisation that are managed by an IT staff may require an Administrator login to complete these steps.
- Press Windows+R and enter the command below, then press ENTER:
mmsys.cpl
- Then use UP/DOWN arrow keys to select the sound output device being used eg soundcard or headset then press press SPACEBAR on it to open its properties.
- Then press CONTROL+TAB to reach Ehancements page then press TAB to reach the checkbox Disable All Enhancements and press SPACEBAR to check this item.
- Then press CONTROL+TAB to reach the Advanced page.
- Press TAB to reach the checkbox ‘Ällow app!ications to take exclusive control of this device’ and press SPACEBAR to uncheck this item.
- Press TAB to reach ‘Give exclusive mode applications priority’ and uncheck this item also.
- Press TAB to reach Apply button and press SPACEBAR on it then press OK to dismiss the dialogue.
- After this you should restart the system so settings properly take effect.
