JAWS - Files and folders announced with check boxes in Windows Explore

Problem:

When you are using Windows File Explorer or you are on the Desktop icons all files announce with checkboxes.

Explanation:

An option in Windows 10 is available which when set will put a checkbox next to each file represented in the file system and desktop objects to enable easier select. Disabling this setting will prevent the checkboxes appearing and still allow you to select files.

Resolution:

  1. Press Windows+E to open the Explorer window.
  2. Then press Alt key followed by V for “View” followed by letter H, T in sequence. This should toggle the setting off.

Note: You can alternatively press Alt followed by right arrow to “View” and press TAB until you get to “item checkboxes” and press spacebar to uncheck this option.
