Problem
An IT Technician in a large organisation may need to manually add registry entries to allow JAWS to startup automatically for an end user.
Resolution
Please see below Windows registry settings for JAWS auto start up.
Note
From version 2018 onwards this is shown as year release. For example 2018, 2019, 2020 etc.
A placeholder [version] is used where one may need to adjust for the installed version of JAWS. Example: FreedomScientific_JAWS_v[version] would be represented as FreedomScientific_JAWS_v2018. For versions below 2018 this is shown as a version number instead eg. FreedomScientific_JAWS_v17.0.
Start JAWS at log on screen
An end user will usually require JAWS to start automatically at Windows sign-in before they can access their desktop.
Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Accessibility\ATs\FreedomScientific_JAWS_v[version]
Value = Configuration value
Value data = FreedomScientific_JAWS_v[version]. Where [version] = placeholder for currently installed version.
To disable: delete this value.
Start JAWS after logon for all users
When set this will allow JAWS to start regardless of who is logged in, good for situations where more than one JAWS user needs to use a PC.
Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Freedom Scientific\JAWS[version]
Value = Run
Value data 1=enable, 0=disable
Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Value = JAWS
Value data = “C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS[version]\jfw.exe” /run
Start JAWS after logon for this user:
Key = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freedom Scientific\JAWS
Value = Run
Value data:
Always = 1
Never = 0
Using the all users setting
Delete Value
Run JAWS from the System Tray
In user settings default.jcf, set [Options]\ViewMode to 1 to run from System Tray. Set to 0 to run in full mode.
