JAWS – Control item number announcement in File Explorer list view

Problem

A JAWS user would like to disable the announcement of position within a the file list view in File Explorer.

Resolution

  1. Press JAWS+F2 and navigate to Settings Centre, and press ENTER.
  2. If JAWS prompts to create a new configuration for File Explorer press ENTER to open Settings Centre.
  3. If you wish to make the change global for all list views press CONTROL+SHIFT+D or skip to next step.
  4. Type to search Verbosity, then press DOWN ARROW to locate Verbosity Level, JAWS will announce the current verbosity level (beginner by default).
  5. Press down arrow once more to Configure Verbosity Level, then press F6.
  6. Press TAB to reach the verbosity level you wish to modify then press SPACEBAR to activate the button.
  7. Then press letter P until you reach Position Information.
  8. Press SPACEBAR to toggle the status of Position Information to adjust the setting.
  9. press F6 followed by TAB to land on Apply button, then press SPACEBAR.
  10. Then press ENTER to dismiss the Settings Centre window.
