JAWS - Change to keyboard processing to fix problem in another keyboard based application
Problem
A JAWS user encounters a problem where JAWS changes the behaviour of another keyboard based application such as a text expander or password manager that impacts negatively on that app.

Resolution
JAWS and Fusion products directly capture and hook keystrokes to function correctly. A recent change in veresion 2023.2306 is now known to affect customers who use other software that carry out similar keyboard processing to do their job. This change normally causes those other programs to stop performing correctly. Below is some information that will restore functionality by disabling the new unified keyboard processing system.
Types of app affected
- A a text expander/replacement software.
- Footswitch software control audio typist system.
- A Passwordmanager software app.
Disable Unified keyboard processing
- Press JAWSKey+F2 and select Settings Centre.
- Then press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to open the default configuration.
- Then search “unified” and press down arrow to reach “Use unified keyboard processing method”.
- When the above is located press spacebar to uncheck the option.
- Then press TAB to reach the Apply button and press SPACEBAR, then press ENTER to close the dialogue.
