JAWS - Change to keyboard processing may disrupt other keyboard processing applications
Problem
JAWS and Fusion products directly capture and hook keystrokes to function correctly. A recent change in veresion 2023.2306 is now known to affect customers who use other software that carry out similar keyboard processing to do their job. This change normally causes those other programs to stop performing correctly. Below is some information that will restore functionality by disabling the new unified keyboard processing system.
Who may be affected
Below a list of users we have observed being affected and may need to disable the new keyboard processing method:
- A customer using a text expander/replacment software.
- An audio typist using footswitches to control playback of dictation.
- A customer with Password Agent password manager.
Resolution
If a customer suddently discovers problems related to keystrokes or their specific app since the JAWS June 2306 update it may be necesssary to disabler the unified keyboard processing using the steps below.
- Press JAWSKey+F2 and select Settings Centre.
- Then press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to open the default configuration.
- Then search “unified” and press down arrow to reach “Use unified keyboard processing method”.
- When the above is located press spacebar to uncheck the option.
- Then press TAB to reach the Apply button and press SPACEBAR, then press ENTER to close the dialogue.
