JAWS - Configure JAWS to announce font colour and other attributes
Problem
A JAWS customer needs to hear more information about font
attribute and colour of text whilst editing a document.
Resolution
JAWS can be permanently set to provide extra information
about text being edited. Please see the
methods below to configure this and use whichever appears to be most
appropriate to need.
Method 1 - Temporarily adjust font notification
These set of instructions allow you to switch between schemes as you need them.
1. Press JAWSKey+V for Quick Settings.
2. Then type the word scheme at the edit prompt then down arrow to Speech and Sounds Scheme.
3. Press F6 to switch windows and press alt+down arrow to open the drop down.
4. Then use the arrow keys to select “Proofing (font attribute and colour or another scheme.
5. Then press shift+F6 then press TAB until you reach OK button and press ENTER on it.
Method 2 – Permanent adjustment font notification
If an end user always requires notification of font attribute and colour info the steps below will make this adjustment permanent.
- Press
JAWSKey+6 on the number row whilst in the application you wish to have JAWS
speak the extra font and colour information.
- Then
search the word “Scheme” without the quotes and press down arrow to Active
Speech and Sounds Scheme.
- Then
press F6 to switch window pane.
- Then
press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the drop-down list and select “Proofing (Font
attribute and colour) scheme.
- Then
press Shift+F6 followed by TAB to reach the Apply button and press SPACEBAR..
- Then
press ENTER to dismiss the window and return to the application.
Below is an example screenshot of how things should look if the settings have been selected correctly, choose Apply and then OK to save the changes.
Method 3 – By hotkey only
- Press JAWSKey+F to hear font info at the cursor position.
- You can also press JAWSKey+number row 5 to hear colour information at the cursor
position.
