JAWS - Cannot properly read cells whilst editing in Excel

Problem

A JAWS customer encounter a problem where after pressing F2 they are not able to properly review any text entered using the arrow keys.


Resolution

A settings change is required in Excel to fix the problem.

Using the mouse

  1. Click File > Options > Advanced.
  2. Under Editing options uncheck the option “Allow editing directly in cells” then click the OK button.

Using the keyboard

  1. Press ALT+F to open File and then down arrow to “options” and press ENTER.
  2. Use arrow keys in the category list to select “Advanced” options.
  3. Then press TAB to reach the checkbox “Allow editing directly in cells” and press spacebar to disable the option.
  4. Then TAB to the OK button and press SPACEBAR.
