JAWS – Error vcspeech.jls is missing

Problem

During launch JAWS posts an error indicating that vcspeech.jls is missing, no speech is heard JAWS fails to operate.


Detail

After installing JAWS you encounter the vcspeech.jls error.  This error occurs when JAWS starts, it refers to various runtime Microsoft Visual C++ libraries which may not be the version that is expected, resulting in a failed call to the vcspeech.jls component which is not actually missing.

 

Resolution

Use the steps below to fix the issue on the affected workstation computer: 

 

  1. Open Apps and Features control panel and search for the item:  C++ to filter the list.
  2. In the list of results multiple 32 and 64bit Microsoft Visual C++ components will be shown.
  3. Please remove all components from the system and restart.
  4. Then run the JAWS installer which will reinstall the necessary components JAWS relies on and should then work again.
