JAWS - VPC fails to read properly in Firefox browser

Problem

A JAWS user encounters a problem trying to read multiple a website using Firefox using the Virtual PC cursor.

Resolution

For most recent versions of Firefox you may need to disable the performance features for hardware acceleration to get JAWS reading with web pages. Please see the steps below that are required to disable these features:


  1. Press ALT+T to open "Tools" and press up arrow to get to "Settings" and press ENTER.
  2. Then in the settings windows navigate to the search field and enter the word "Hardware" without the quotes.
  3. Then navigate to "use recommended performance settings" and uncheck this option.
  4. Then press tab to reach the option "use hardware acceleration when available" and uncheck this also.
  5. Press CONTROL+W to close the settings panel.
