JAWS fails to read text entered into Outlook compose message window
Problem:
When editing in the compose message windo of Microsoft Outlook the customer is unable to hear back text from JAWS reading keys eg, lefft/right or up/down arrow keys etc.
Resolution:
In order for reading to work correct the Microsoft VBA add-in must be active in the COM+ add-ins. This facilitates reading in that window to capture information from the editing cursor. Use the steps below to check.
Method 1 - re-enabled in COM+ add-ins dialogue
- Press alt+F to open “File” menu and choose “options”.
- Then press T for press down arrow to fine “options” and select it.
- Then press letter A or down arrow until you reach “add-ins”.
- Then press alt+G to open the Com Add-ins “Go” button.
- With the arrow keys locate the Microsoft VBA Outlook add-in” and make sure it is checked. If it is not checked press spacebar to check it.
- Then press TAB to “Ok” button and press spacebar.
- Then do the same for the main options dialogue to complete the changes.
Method 2 - repair Micfosoft office
- Press WindowsKey+X to open the shortcut menu and choose “apps and Features” or press Windows key and type the search “Apps and features”.
- In “Apps and Features” press TAB to reach the apps search box and search for “Microsoft Office” or press TAB until you reach the apps list and scroll to “Microsoft Office” entry.
- On the highlighted item press ENTER and then TAB to read the “Modify” button and press SPACEBAR.
- Follow the instructions through and select either “Quick Repair” or “Online repair. If you are doing this for the first time try a “Quick Repair” first.
- Complete the installation wizard and restart your computer.
Test Microsoft Office for he problem. If the problem still persists try run through 1 through 5 but choose “Online repair” then test again. You may wish to check the add-in is permanently enabled in Outlook.

Method 3 - Remove and reinstall Microsoft office
- Please open Apps and Features.
- Find the office install and choose "Uninstall" and folllow the instructions.
- Download a fresh installer and reinstall the office suite.
