JAWS - Error on startup diplayed, error code 0xc0000135

Problem

JAWS does not start properly, no speech is heard and a notice with error code 0xc0000135 is posted on screen.

This process can be applied to other applications known to Sight and Sound where they post a similar error and fail to launch.

Resolution

This problem may be caused by the absence of a Windows .NET component. Please use the steps to add it to the Windows system.

  1. Open Control panel > Programs and features
  2. Then select "Turn Windows feature on or off" link
  3. In the list check the box next to " .NET Framework 3.5" (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
  4. Make sure the following items are checked:
    Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation
    Windows Communication Foundation non-HTTP Activation
  5. Then click OK button to install these features.
