JAWS – No Braille output from Humanware Brailliant displays.


Problem

After setting up a Humanware Brailliant there is no output sent to the Humanware Brailliant Braille display. 

 

Resolution

Please use the instructions that suit best from those below.

Using the mouse

  1. Right click Start and choose Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager explore the device tree and locate the Humanware Brailliant device, and then double click it.
  3. Click Driver tab,  then click Update Driver button.
  4. Click Browse This PC and then Let Me Pick From A List Of Compatible Hardware.
  5. Then click to select USB Serial Device, then click Next button.
  6. The display may then start responding, if not close Device Manager and restart JAWS.

Using the keyboard

  1. Press WINDOWS+X to open the alternative start menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Use arrow keys to explore device tree and locate the Humanware Braille Display and press ENTER on it to open properties.
  3. Press CONTROL+TAB to reach Driver tab.
  4. Then press TAB to Update Driver button and press SPACEBAR on it.
  5. In the wizard use arrow keys to select Browse This PC and press SPACEBAR on it.
  6. Then use arrow keys to select Let Me Pick From A List Of Compatible Hardware.
  7. Press Tab In the list to select USB Serial Device, then TAB to Next button and press SPACEBAR  on nit.
  8. The display should then connect.
  9. Then choose close. you may have to restart JAWS.
