JAWS – PictureSmart keystrokes


Problem

A JAWS customer would like to know keystrokes for PictureSmart feature.

Resolution

  1. PictureSmart was introduced in JAWS 2021 product series providing a way to get unbiased descriptions of images customers may need.
  2. The system uses JAWS Layered Hotkey JAWSKey+SPACEBAR followed by p for PictureSmart, and followed by another letter for a specific PictureSmart action.  
  3. Recently AI Assisted features have been made available using uppercase letters in the PictureSmart keystrokes to gain much higher quality descriptions of visual material.

PictureSnart

Press the basic PictureSmart layered sequence JAWSKey+SPACEBAR, p then lower case letters below for standard PictureSmart shortcuts.  

  1. a - Capture from camera 
  2. f - Currently select file item
  3. b - From Windows clipboard 
  4. c - Current Control
  5. s - Capture entire screen
  6. w - Describe current winow
  7. ? - PictureSmart Help info

Note
To ask a question about an element press ALT+AA after layered keystroke to ask a question about the image.

PictureSmart AI 

Press the PictureSmart layered sequence JAWSKey+SPACEBAR, p then invoke any of the uppercase letters below to run AI Assisted PictureSmart:


  • A – Describes a picture taken from a flatbed scanner or the Freedom Scientific PEARL camera.
  • F – Describes the currently selected image in File Explorer.
  • C – Describes any currently selected control.
  • B – Describes the contents of the Windows Clipboard if it contains an image.
  • S – Describes the entire screen.
  • W – Describes the current application window.
  • QUESTION MARK – Displays help for the Picture Smart laye

PictureSmart queries

After PictureSmart returns information in the results viewer navigate to links for example to ask questions about an image.  Upon selecting the link you are prompted to type in a question about the image.
