JAWS – Read text inside text boxes in Microsoft Word


Problem

A customer having opened a Microsoft Word document can only hear text boxes announced but no text is read.

Explanation:

The editing cursor is prevented from reading what is inside a text box which mean text contained cannot be read by JAWS as is normally the case.



Resolution

Use the following method for any text boxes present in a Microsoft Word document.

 

1.       Press CONTROL+SHIFT+O to list the inline objects in the document.

2.       Use arrow keys to browse to the object of interest and press ENTER.

3.       The PC cursor will be placed inside the text box to allow reading of any text inside that single text box.

4.       Repeat the procedure for any remaining text boxes in the document.
