JAWS - Saving Outlook attachments

Problem

A JAWS user needs a method to save attachments to somewhere in their documents folder.

Resolution

  1. In Outlook open the message that has the attachments to be saved.
  2. Then press ALT+F to open File then use down arrow to locate Save Attachments and press ENTER.
  3. When the attachment dialogue has opened press ENTER to save all attachments from the message.
  4. The explorer shell dialogue will open up with focus at the file name entry box, press F4 to navigate to the address bar.
  5. Then type in any of the following depending on where you wish to save the attachments and press ENTER:

    Desktop
    Documents
    Downloads
    Music
    Pictures
    Videos
    3D objects

Alternatively you can also use UP/DOWN arrow keys to find recently used folders and press ENTER to select them.

  6. If you need to place the attachments inside another folder within any of the above press TAB four times or until you get to files list view.
  7. Then use arrow keys or first letter navigation to find the folder, then press ENTER.
  8. Once you have found the location to save the attachments to press TAB to reach the Save button, then press SPACEBAR.  The attachments will then be saved to the selected location.

Info
At step 5 of the above instructions advanced users who are familiar with entering hierarchical folder paths may enter the destination path eg. c:\[myfolder] then press ENTER where myfolder is the place holder for the designated folder.  This can be extended as many levels deep as long as each folder is separated by a backslash.
