JAWS - Soundcard is muted

Problem

A JAWS customer has a problem with not hearing JAWS speech, a common reason for this may be that the sound card has been accidentally muted.

Resolution

Use the steps below to disable muted audio
  1. Open SNDVOL.EXE app for the volume panel.
  2. Along the bottom check the buttons next to each slider, any that show a red circle with a line through next to the loudspeaker symbol indicates the channel is muted.  Click to disable mute on any channel.
  3. If speech is not heard ensure that either main volume or the slider for FSSynth level is not set to zero.
