JAWS - Soundcard is muted
Problem
A JAWS user may encounter a problem where no speech is being heard from JAWS software even when it is running.
Resolution
One possible likely scenario is that the soundcard has become muted, onen may attempt to fix the problem using the Windows sound mixer utility.
- Open
SNDVOL.EXE app for the volume panel.
- Along
the bottom check the buttons next to each slider, any that show a red circle with
a line through next to the loudspeaker symbol indicates the channel is
muted. Click to disable mute on any channel.
- If
speech is not heard ensure that either main volume or the slider for FSSynth
level is not set to zero.
