JAWS - Supress the sound splitter feature discovery dialogue

Problem

When using JAWS with any apps that make use of the soundcard for audio/video conferencing such as Microsoft Teams of Zoom the user is invited to try the feature which impedes the user.

Resolution

Method 1: Using the UI

  1. When the Sound Splitter discovery dialogue pops up press TAB to reach the “Don’t show again” checkbox.
  2. Then press SPACEBAR to check the option.
  3. Then press ENTER to dismiss the dialogue.

Method 2: Edit JAWS configuration file
File name:

default.jcf

File is location:

%AppData%\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\[Year/version]\Settings\enu

Where [year/version] is placeholder for the JAWS year/version currently installed. For example 2023 or 18.0.

Edit the feature status flag from 1 to 0:

ShowSoundMixerDiscoveryDialog=0
