JAWS – Workaround to scan an image using PictureSmart in Outlook message
Problem
A customer who has received an email with embedded image
is having problems obtaining a scan with PictureSmart from within the Outlook message
window.

Detail
When opening an Outlook email that contains an image, the user attempts to focus the virtual PC cursor on the image of interest and invokes the PictureSmart shortcut but gets an error stating he current control is not an image.
Workaround
Please see below a workaround to the problem below:
- Open the message that has the image contained in it.
- Press control+R to open the reply window.
- Then use UP/DOWN ARROW keys locate the image of interest.
- Then press JAWSKey+SPACEBAR, p, c to activate PictureSmart
on the currently focused image. JAWS will post a window of results, use the UP/DOWN ARROW
keys to browse the description and press ESCAPE when ready to exit the results
window.
- Then press ESCAPE to exit the replied message.
Note
The above steps will only work wit HTML or Rich Text, if a customer only replies in plain text the above steps will not work.
