JAWS – Respond to Windows notification to run routine scan

Problem

A JAWS user is prompted by Windows to run a Microsoft Defender scan with but doesn't know how to respond to the prompt.

Resolution

Use one of the methods below to conduct a Defender scan on a PC.

 

Method 1 – Respond with simulated mouse click

  1. When the notification is heard press the number pad slash key, this simulates a left click with the mouse and should let you respond to the prompt.
  2. When the main window opens and Quick Scan button is heard press SPACEBAR on it to start the scan.

 

Method 2 – Run scan manually

  1. Press Windows key and then search the word Virus.
  2. When Virus and Threat Protection result is returned press ENTER to open it.
  3. Then on the next screen press SPACEBAR on the Quick Scan button.
