K1000 quits to desktop during scanning

Problem

During the recognition process after initiating a scan k1000 will unexpectedly back to desktop just as it is recognizing text. This problem is known to be the result of a permissions issue on the system which can be corrected.

Resolution

Use each method below in turn to resolve the issue.

Method 1: full control permission for user or group

  1. Press WINDOWS+R and then add the text below and click “OK”:
    %AppData%
  2. Then in Explorer right click and choose properties on the “ABBYY” folder.
  3. Then chose “Security” tab in the properties.
  4. Then click “Edit” button and then select the logged in end user or the group they belong to. If unsure add the “Everyone” group.
  5. The users or groups click the “Full control” checkbox in the pane below.
  6. Click “Apply” and “OK” buttons to complete the permissions change.

Method 2: add further folder and registry permissions.

  1. Open “C:\Program Files (x86)” folder.
  2. Right click and open properties for the “Kurzweil Educational Systems” folder.
  3. Then in permissions Then chose “Security” tab in the properties.
  4. Then click “Edit” button and then select the logged in end user or the group they belong to. If unsure add the “Everyone” group.
  5. The users or groups click the “Full control” checkbox in the pane below.
  6. Click “Apply” and “OK” buttons to complete the permissions change.
  7. Press WINDOWS+R and enter the command below, then click “OK” button:
    Regedit.exe
    • Locate each key in turn and right click, then choose “permissions” menu item:
HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\KESI 
HKCU\Software\KESI 

  1. In the permissions dialogue select the user for which you wish to add permissions.
  2. Then click “Full control” checkbox.
  3. Then click “Ok” button.

Method 3: uninstall/reinstall software
Completely uninstall and reinstall k1000 software.
