Keyboard stops working on Lenovo V130-15IKB laptop

Keyboard stops working on Lenovo V130-15IKB laptop

Problem

The keyboard stops working on Lenovo V130 laptop. When checking Device Manager error code 19 is shown for the device.

Resolution

Method 1: check general software issues
• Open a browser and search Google for “ADWCleaner” and run this to check for malware issue.
• Try updating Windows 10 and system drivers.
• Check BIOS and if necessary, update the laptop BIOS firmware. Lenovo V130-15IKB page here.

Method 2: editing registry

  1. Make the following modifications to the registry for the class of device affected
    (in this case keyboard). There may be a number of sub keys with the string: {4d36e96b-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} at the location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4d36e96b-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
  2. When you have found the correct instance modify the “Upperfilters” Value to:
    “kbdclass” without the quotes. Then restart the machine.
  3. Check in device manager to see if the keyboard is now working.

Other things to consider:
• If the above does not help you may need to consider whether either:
• The keyboard has spontaneously malfunctioned (unlikely if all keys are dead)
• Whether liquid damage may have occurred to stop keyboard operating.
