About

Kurzweil 1000 (sometimes referred to as K1000) is a scan and read solution for blindness customers.  I was first introduced in 1997 as successor to a line of hardware based scanners for the blind released under the Kurzweil name including the Kurzweil Reading Edge.  The software can be installed on Windows and is completey self-voicing so does not require a screen a separate reader.  The software only requires a compatible flatbed scanner or multi-function printer that uses a TWAIN interface to complete the set up providing a desktop OCR reading solution.   Although this software still receives technical support from the developer no major version upgrades are expected (only minor maintainence updates).
