Laptop HP - Run component hardware tests (UEFI)

Problem

An HP laptop is suspected of having problems with hardware and you wish to run hardware diagnostics independantly of Windows to identify the problem.

This document assumes UEFI diagnostics are already installed skip to the section Run UEFI diagnostic below.  

Downloading UEFI diagnostics:  

  1. Please use this link to download the diagnostics package:   https://support.hp.com/gb-en/help/hp-pc-hardware-diagnostics
  2. Scroll down to the heading Computer won’t boot? Try UEFI Diagnostics, then click the blue Download button.
  3. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install.
  4. When completed shut down the computer completely.

Run UEFI diagnostic

  1. Press power button and immediately press ESC key repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu is displayed, press the F2 key.
  2. On the main menu, click Component Tests link, the Component Tests menu is displayed.
  3. Select the component suspected to be faulty to begin testing.   The screenshot below is an example and may not show exactly the same tests.
