Lenovo - V15 LCD screen flickers or cuts out

Problem

A Lenovo V15 user encounrters a problem with their LCD screen with one of the following symptoms:
  1. Display flickers
  2. Blanks out briefly
  3. Text becomes blurred when two windows are place side by side

Applies to

  1. Lenovo V15-IIL/V15 G2-ALC

Resolution

You will need to uninstall and cleanly reinstall the chipset and display adaptor software to fix the issue.


  1. Download the drivers below appropriate to the Lenovo laptop model:

Lenovo V15-IIL

  1. VGA Driver (V15 IIL)
  2. Chipset driver (V15 IIL

  4. Lenovo V15 G2-ALC
  1. Then open start menu and click “power” symbol so.
  2. Then hold down shift whilst clicking “restart” option. The laptop will then reboot into recovery mode.
  3. Then choose the following options Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup settings.
  4. Then choose “Restart” button.
  5. Then use the corresponding number to select the option for “Safe mode”.
  6. Then right click “Start” and choose “Device Manager”.
  7. In “Device manager” double click “Display adaptors” category to reveal the display adaptor.
  8. Then right click the display adaptor and choose “Uninstall”, if there is a checkbox to remove the driver software click this.
  9. Click “Start” menu and then power symbol and choose “Restart” to have machine restart in normal mode.
  10. Once signed back in run the Intel Chipset Driver download.
  11. Then run the Display Adaptor software installer.
  12. Restart the machine once installation finishes.
  13. Then when the machine has restarted open Start menu and search for “Command prompt” and then right click the result when it shows up and choose “Run as Administrator”.
  14. In the text window copy/paste the following command:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  1. When the command above has finished do the same for this command and press ENTER:
sfc.exe /scannow

You are now ready to test to see if fault is cleared.
