Mac OS - collect wireless diagnostic information

Problem

A Mac/MacBook user is having problems with Wi-Fi receptional and wishes to collection information to help troubleshoot the issue.

Resolution

Use the steps as apropriate or in sequence depending on the judged complexity of the problem being experienced.

Method 1 – performance information

  1. Hold Option key and click on the wi-fi symbol at the top in the menu bar.
  2. In the menu click Open Wireless Diagnostics in the menu bar.
  3. Then click Wireless > Performance to open up the chart.
  4. Then look at the bottom chart plot, take down the numbers reported for RSSI and Noise and send those back to Support, if you can sent a screen shot of that window it would also help.

Method 2 – detailed report

  1. In the Wireless Diagnostics window already open from the preceeding steps click Continue button then choose Continue To Summary radio button and click Continue.
  2. Then click Continue button then it may take a short while for it to create the report, click Continue to have the wizard show you the location of the report.
  3. Please send the report as attachment to Technical Support.
